Melik Ohanian – Futuring [Cosmos]

A glass globe of 33cm, mounted on a metal stand. Fixed in two points on an inclined axis, it recalls the globes used since the end of the 15th century by geographers. Presented in the center of a cubic base surmounted by a mirror, it exists in two versions: Planet, whose glass manufactured industrially is homogeneous; and Cosmos, whose handcrafted glass is riddled with air bubbles. The artist sees in the first the image of our planet, while the second reads a universe, a macrocosm in a microcosm.

With a master glassmaker we realized the Cosmos bubble; we bought Planet’s bubble in the shops; we made the metal stand and the mirrored exhibition cube.
